To access OPOP services through one of the collaborating OPOP programs, a referral from Northern, remote or rural site medical staff is required (e.g., general practitioner, psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, clinical nurse specialist).
The Ontario Psychiatric Outreach Program (OPOP) is the largest and most comprehensive provider of psychiatric outreach services to under-serviced areas of Ontario. It aims to provide high-quality clinical and educational services in psychiatry with the goal of building mental health service capacity in these regions.
We continually strive to provide interprofessional, contextually relevant community-oriented service and education. OPOP is funded through the Northern Health Program of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Currently three university programs participate in OPOP: the University of Ottawa's Northern Ontario Francophone Psychiatric Program; the Northern Psychiatric Outreach Program at CAMH; and the University of Western Ontario's Extended Campus Program. OPOP has strong collaborations with CAMH Telepsychiatry Services and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM).
